Quite a long, wet, sludgy day. I'm not so poetic so I'll try to be more scientific:
Bike Ride Consumption:
- 75->80 wet gravel miles
-3 Power Bars
-3 Energy Gels
-2 3/4 liters of gatorade
-1 pair of socks
-1 bike chain
-lots of cleaning fluid
-lots o' calories
-lots of sleep (ride started at 6am!)
Ok, that's about all I could think of. The ride today was to say the least very grueling. I think that's the best adjective. And I only went the 75 "bail out" -> yikes! The other 5 guys did the 110 route, or more? The morning started out super foggy. I decided to drive up to Gilbert where Paul's house is. We road through rain for most of the morning I'd say. The gravel was very slow. I felt great all day with the improved approach to energy. However, my bike was suffering. The gravel just ate away at my gears. I'm trying to clean it up tonight if I can. There were a few creek crossing so I'll have to check the bearings. Definitely need to take Matt's advice and get some more tenacious lube for next time? Yikes, dont' know about next time yet. Plus I think if I ever do that again, I'll grab a smaller front ring. My knees were shot from grinding away and so little pedal play from all the muck. Oh well, I made it, and feel really good especially compared to last time. Oh yeah, didn't walk up a single hill:) So even my bail out doesn't feel too bad.

Great riding with you Alex. What a day. I am sure I won't forget this ride for many years to come. I am glad it is over with that is for sure!
We are thinking of a bit of a night ride this weekend if you would like to join us.
It was nice to have you along. Perhaps we'll be smart and hang out indoors when storming like that again. To avoid the lightening more than the damp.
Sorry I didn't call when we were finished. I suppose when we parted company I had a bit of optimism left that I might actually have the energy to be social. After a short rest at Paul's it was home to food and bed.
Next time there will be barbeque and beer for sure. The weather is finally here for it.
Hey Guys. Paul - I'm trying to figure out at least a couple road rides this week. I saw Paul V was maybe doing one on Wednesdays. Then there's also one from Bike World Ames on Thursday. Then this weekend I'd be up for anything. I was thinking we oughta take a relaxing ride too sometime, every bit of riding should help the trainees.
Cory - nice to ride with you too. I think it was on the way South into the wind in the muck that I figured you guys would be dead by the time you got to that point. I felt good when I got back, but doubt I'd have been too chipper after 110.
