Ok, feel free to knock on wood, or whatever you need to do so that you don't feel I'm jinxing a chance at nicer weather. But it sure seemed today, on a crisp early morning ride, that things are changing. Sure, it was very sketchy riding over yesterday's water run off that created big sheets of ice. But within an hour of our 8:30 start it seemed like most of the ice had melted.
Paul V, Cory, and I went for about a 22-25 mile ride. I'm sure Paul's got the exact distance. It was fun to again ride with some fixed gear riders. It's so much nicer to clean up my IRO. We had a couple bouts with some impatient 4 wheeled foes, but oh well. Maybe people will figure out that you are allowed to ride 2 abreast, and it helps cars be more aware of bicyclists:
Iowa Bike Rules
I almost thought I should find a similar site, or just use this, print it out, and carry them on rides. Then if anything happens, it isn't a useless argument, just "here's the rules, I'm following them, you're not". That way I can always be sure to completely enjoy the weather, ride, company, and scenery.
I'm growing impatient trying to wait for a good Reynolds 531 (or equivalent) lugged steel 70s road frame. I'm looking for something with between a 51 and 54cm top tube. Please chime in if anyone reads this and finds one. For some unknown reason I'm partial to the classic trek frames:

But when Sheldon Brown and many others hail Raleigh frames, I'd be just as happy with one of those. I'm looking for a much older one, so that I can get the tire clearance I want, 35-38mm.
Hope ya'll enjoy the weather, if it's mucky grab some fenders:)
