So it's been great weather to head out on the county roads of Iowa. Sunday I think it was I took a 45 miler. I was only going to go 35 but it was a pretty strong headwind out. On the way back it was quite the cruise. The legs felt sore for a bit, but quickly got better the ensuing days.
Last night I though I'd head out again. I flipped my stem over before going out. I had quite a bit of traffic going out, which was very annoying. Then the stem felt very wrong actually, so a few miles out I flipped it back. A guy passed me then, and for awhile I was slowly catching him. I think he probly saw me behind him. The headwind was again bad, so it was somewhat slow going. It is suprising, just flipping my stem back over took a lot of pressure of of my seat, so the undercarriage was a lot more comfy. I caught the guy at a corner where he stopped. Then I took a left. He slowly caught me back up, though I really slowed thinking he wasn't going that way. He just stopped at the place I was turning around, and looked like he was expecting me to ride with him. He road a good pace, and we chatted the rest of the way back to town. I think he was quite competitive, and yet a little older. But he did well. I think he mentioned a few times that was faster than he usually goes.
I felt great for those 36 miles. I had 3 Little Debbie treats, for a total of 75 cents. Can anyone really say those won't work as "energy treats". I think someone should investigate that. I mean they're basically just loads of simple sugars. I'd think there's some energy benefit there. I kinda doubt it would hurt you on a ride.
Anyway, work's finishing up, and the little school work I had is all done. So maybe a little work on my thesis and a trip to Lincoln will finish up this semester. I start my job at Sauer Danfoss May 7th. Should be an interesting and challenging job. Hopefully I can get over to Monkey Wrench while in Lincoln to take another look at a Kona 29er.
