I realize it was short notice, and a lot of the bloggers were probly busy, but ya'll missed a great day of riding at Seven Oaks:) I was glad Matt was able to get out. He road out, I wussed out and drove. Matt showed up on his dumpster find old steel Gary Fisher with On One Midge bars. I of course was happy to test out my Kona.
Matt said it was his first time with this bike at Seven Oaks too. So the first lap we were figuring it out. But Matt said his was going surprisingly well. I said the same with the 29er. I was a little unsure whether the big wheels and big geometry would handle the tight technical trail. But actually it did great. There were a couple tight uphills that I wasn't ready for with the big heavy wheels. But the roots, and other trail hazards, I rolled over very easily. Most surpising, I cleared every switchback. With the steep climbs and stouter chainstays, all I could think of was racing this thing:)
After a couple laps I was good to go. Mostly cause it was lunch-time. If I had some more food I'd have done another lap. Surprisingly, my Friday night quck road ride didn't affect me too much.

Sorry I couldn't make it on Sunday. Maybe next time.
My first and only time at Boone on a 29er was pleasant. I cleared things with which I had previously had trouble. You cleared all of the switchbacks? Up and down? You the man! I've not done that.
Yeah, short top tubes, and short Alex's make switchbacks a little easier:)
Hopefully I'll catch you some other time out there. No racing, just fun technical, relaxing singletrack. Cory called the other night, so maybe we can get a few folks next time. Later Paul.
glad you dig your new rig. one of my favorite things about riding 29 inches is how much easier it is for me to keep my front wheel on the ground and in control on steep climbs. 7oaks is so much fun... i was so giddy after our ride on saturday, i felt like i was on drugs or something! out-of-control happy.
Alex, Found a site you might dig since you love old steel frames. www.cyclofiend.com Check it out sometime. Also, saw a guy in my store (Redeker Furniture) wearing a Monkey Wrench shirt. Said that his girlfriend's brother in law was the owner? Something like that. Later! Travel Gravel!
Hey guys. Thanks for riding with me on Saturday Emily. We had a good time, I was finally getting used to TJ runnin along side:)
Hey Greg, thanks for the link, that is very cool. I'm not as familiar with the Monkey Wrench folks as Emily is, but they're all good "biking is life" type people:) I hope I can catch you on a ride sometime soon.
