Sunset and Lightning show

This rainy weather has been a major drag the last week or so. And when it's not raining it's muggy and hot. But Sunday I got out for a very short quick road ride, the Bianchi felt great, finally positioned right on that bike. It's fast for club rides and still smooth enough for casual rides.

Then last night I went for a very short ride on my Surly. I took that cause it now has some fenders that'll stay on there for some time. I like that build up. But anyway, the reason for the title, I headed up to my usual "Plains Overlook" up on the dirt trail at Ada Hayden. And the wind is at my back, I'm facing north. The edge of the storm is literally right over my head. But with the wind at my back it wasn't heading toward me, just straight east. So it created this really interesting scene. I'm sitting there, looking left watching the sun make its way through the clouds, and as I look straight, I see some violent lightning. It made me think, as Cory says, you gotta get out there, and say "I've been there", but when you can't do that, the usual, local, places that you go to all the time, can seem different too.

In other news, I'm torn about buying a Raleigh Super Course MKII. It's on ebay with a buy it now of $129. I did some looking, it's got a british BB which I think would make it easy to find a BB for. But I saw that on ebay just a few minutes before walking to the library and seeing what I really wanted. This guy rolls up in this white and light blue Professional, Carlton, 531 that looks to be the right size. I talk to him, he picked up the whole bike for $45!!! I was pissed to say the least. Kicking myself, for not going to more garage sales, but seriously, how lucky would you have to be to find that, you'd have to go to every garage sale in Iowa to find that. So I say to him, I'll give you $100. He says nah. Then I say I'll give you $150, and he looks at it, and says " this is my only mode of transportation". I say to myself, "ride the diesel puking Cyride if you need a lift, they're going anyway, and you make $105 off me!!!". But still nothing. I went back a short while later to leave my email, but he must have taken off with it somewhere else. I'll have to happen upon it again, and email him saying I'll build you a bike, I just want that frame!

I love the way a bit of rain, a lie on the back or a slight change of light can refresh familiar things.

Dude that sucks. When you stop looking for it, there it'll be. Annoying how it works.

Yeah, very cool color.

When you say "looking for it" do you mean, a beautiful lugged 531 steel frame, or a beautifully well endowed girlfriend?:)

Both...ah man, so many cycling related innuendos come to mind.

There's a place here in town called South Salem Cycleworks that is pretty much strictly roadie. Italian handmade steel or similar. Saw a used Gaansari hanging in there also a Calfee. Lots of other used frames, complete bikes and components. Mean to poke around and keep an eye peeled for you. Heading down that way tomorrow. Let me know. What size? Price range?

Oh cool thanks. It sounds like a shop type that I haven't seen before. I am super impressed with Calfee's handle on the engineering behind carbon manufacturing. If you're bored, he has a white paper on his site that is one of the most practical yet complete explanations of all things carbon.

If you see any lugged 531, trek or raleighs, I'd just need to get a 52-54.5 top tube. 55 would be too big for sure. For a decent one I'd pay 150 for the frame. Thanks.
