Does this look right?

I'm trying to get into the right position with my Kona. I should have gotten Monkey Wrench to set me up. I have to have a small frame, for standover, etc... But I'm wondering if I need a still longer stem? I switched from 100 - 110, but don't think that was enough. My back looks fairly straight I guess? I think my arms are just longer than average.

plum line from front of knee to pedal spindle. hard to tell from the pic. guess the question is, does it feel good?

Actually there's a ton of disagreement about the knee to pedal thing. Keith Bontrager actually writes about "the myth of KNOPS". So does Peter White. Something about fore/aft is more important or something???

I guess what I mean is, no, didn't really feel good on my lower back, so I measured the bontrager, and it was about an inch longer. So I bought a little longer stem, but should have gotten an even longer one I think. My seats very far back. Just trying to get an idea of how straight my back looks and/or should look. Any pics from you or other folks riding might help:)

Alex, try flipping that stem over for a little rise/mm or two less effective reach. Might help straighten your back up a little without buying another stem. On the long arm thing, maybe you have positive ape index! You should try rock climbing if so.

I am seriously considering going to get fit down by DQ in Des Moines. I just have know clue what I am doing when it comes to fit. I know with my Flight I am in a different position than my Ibex that is for sure. Most noticeably my legs are more straight at the bottom of the pedal stroke. If you are interested maybe DQ would give us a deal going down together.

Hmm...fit..I got a bike fit once and it was great, but on all of my other bikes I just go with the basic set up and then make if comfortable. With a mountain bike you will be all over the place on the saddle and leaning forward and back so just find a spot that feels comfortable. Works for me anyway.

Also, you still selling those Hayes Brakes. I'm looking for a rear brake for a new DJ bike I'm building. let me know.

Thanks guys for the input. Greg, I had all the spacers out of the stem the other day, kind of the same idea. But you're right, I think that would help straighten things. That ape index thing is hilarious, thanks for the laugh Greg:) I am a fairly hairy guy too. Doesn't this all mean I'm "less evolved" than others though?

Hey Paul. Let me know when you call down there. If they are willing to give you a deal, let me know what it is. I'd just be interested in how long my top tube should be. The knee thing doesn't bother me and is easy to get right IMO. Every "expert" on the web says that the top tube length is the most important measure on the frame.

Hey Carney, thanks for the info, it's interesting to know that you didn't really carry the bike fit dimensions to other bikes.

Sure, the Hayes discs are still for sale. I probably won't be splitting up the pair, they're hard to sell as singles:) But I'd be happy to sell them locally rather than to an anonymous on ebay.

Positive Ape Index = armspan greater than height, hair is a non-factor! Unless you hve a punked out Mohawk, which gives style points.Later! Also, although I hate doing it on my bikes, you might get some back relief by dropping the nose of the seat a click, rolling the hips forward a little.

Yeah, I wikied the ape index thing. I think it's probably true for me.

It's funny you mention the seat thing. I actually did that just after posting this and it did make a difference. I'm going to either flip the stem or move it above the spacers before going on my next ride. Thanks for the suggestions.
