Devo Rocks

Thanks to Monkey Wrench Cycles for letting me borrow their WTB Devo test ride seat. I've been waiting for that "ooh that's the seat for me" moment. It's an interesting design. The back of the seat is quite upright and wide and firm. When you sit on it (I at least) can feel my seat bones propped up on the back sections of the seat. At this same point there is some firm padding. It seemed a bit weird at first, like you were going to get sore at 2 small points on your backside, but then you realize there's very little pressure anywhere else in the undercarriage region. Which makes for a much better (and safer!) seat to ride for long distances. I'll try it a bit more on my Surly then have to get on the rollers with it on my Bianchi. Find the right seat for you it's worth it.

On a side note, a class I'm taking had a guy present his project today. He was proposing a system that makes custom density soles for running shoes based on your natural footstep. We gotta get somebody to do this for bike seats. Imagine a custom bike seat made just for you! You could go to your local bike shop and sit on a bike pressure plate in your biking position, and record where the highest pressure points are and 3D print out a foam seat for your arse. Then ship it off to somebody to cover it with leather and attach it to some rails.

I just had a similar experience when I picked up a Specialized Toupe. I definitely feel all my weight on my sitbones. I really noticed the difference when I swapped my old saddle back on. Ouch. The wider, flatter profile of the Toupe fits me better.

Yeah, it took long enough, but it's worth it to find the right one.
