Here's a quick screenshot of a design for mounting my bar end shifter near my brake lever. The right side would mount underneath the bar just behind the brake hood, and use a road brake lever's clamp. Then the shifter mounts on the left side there. The lever would sit upright so you'd use your thumb to push it forward, and pull it back. If you rotate the clamp part, it would then tilt the lever farther away or closer to the brake hood for a little adjustment for clearance and thumb reach. It's a bit clunky looking, so I'm thinking I'll put a beam like section between the two attachment points instead of that boxed-looking section. Cory, maybe this gives you some idea about what I was working on:)
