I figured it was time to switch my Surly over to single speed again. I've been enjoying some 42 width tires on it for a couple weeks. I took the Origin/On-One copy bars off my IRO. I like the Mungos better. I wanted to try some brake levers on these bars. So the other weekend I took off the grips that I had on it and tried to get all the cables/housing. I ended up needing another screw to hold in the clamp. So I got another clamp yesterday after sitting at Taraccino in the morning. Matt helped me out at Skunk River, so I picked up some tubes there too. Then I figured I'd see if they had a short stem at Bike World, and wanted to pick up some old Shimano 600 levers they had there too. 2 bucks for the levers, 20 for a cheap stem. Oh well. It's a weird size, and the levers were a deal. I ended up getting the Cane Creek levers I had with the clamp I bought to work with some longer hardware oughta my toolbox. I'll use the shimano levers somewhere else I'm sure.
So I'll probly get the housing and cables on this afternoon, and finish it off with the celeste bar tape. I'm ready for some new frames, so that I can just keep each frame it's own style. It's not hard to switch over, I just like each type a lot. So it'll be fun to try out the cross-check with dirt drops and big fat tires, and single speed to boot.
Other than that I've just been trying to get enough sleep, and sitting at coffee shops, as usual for my weekends this summer. Taraccino like I said yesterday and here at Stomping grounds today. It gives me a chance to look through thesis literature, and today looking back at a program I had to do for a class. This OpenGL program should be the basis for my experiments for my thesis. I got it back to a point where I know how to add in other geometric functions that I am working with. I also know what I need to do to get the on-screen picking of surfaces working. So I can visually test other surface manipulation functions. By the end of the summer I'll probably try out a few of the methods that are used in the literature I'm reading. I did see my professor for this computer graphics class yesterday. I mentioned some thoughts to him and as always he seemed very supportive. Guys like that always remind you that you've got a long way to go to really challenge yourself. At least the ideas I mentioned he said were interesting. So I'll keep on it, and see what I can implement.
I'm watchin the weather now and we'll see if I can get the Surly out for a relaxed ride.
