So I went out finally on Memorial day for an afternoon ride. We did have a hunk of steel to use for our CNC code. So I thought I'd get some good riding in. I got out to a turnaround, for a short ride around 38 miles. So at half way I took a break, ate a sandwich and rested. Trying to enjoy the day, I watched the clouds roll in, preparing myself for the headwind I was about to encounter heading south.
It got darker and darker though. I sat up against some Qwest brick building for some large antenna towers. So I couldn't see south very much. The weather was fine, so I thought it would be just the wind to battle on the way back. However, the clouds kept coming. So I got up, and looked, sure enough, some very dark looming clouds were rolling in. But looking straight up it was super sunny, blue sky. It was just this huge chunk of clouds - hence the scattered title to this blog - that was about to dump a huge load of rain. Luckily I was literally about 200 feet away from the edge of the clouds. So I just waited about 5 minutes and the storm passed. But the cement was soaked, even with the heavy winds. So my bike got a little baptism of tire spray. Oh well, I hurridly cleaned it off when I got back (of course).
The wind was horrible, and with some sprinkles it was a very annoying ride home. You just can't count on any Iowa weather. I was really cussing this state on the way back. All it does it ruin my rides with wind. And if that isn't enough, it'll throw in some rain, jeesh. But I got over it just in time for more flooding amounts of rain the last couple days. Go figure. At least it doesn't seem to hinder my working from 7-7 everyday. I hope it clears up enough so I can enjoy the last days of "spring" with somewhat decent temps. We'll just wait, you never know what to expect with Iowa weather.
