I got the Kona out for a Peterson Pit ride. I always want to claim that a steel cross bike is all you need for gravel rides, but dang, even the scandium Kona is a nice ride on gravel. Then it tears up the singletrack when I get there. I think both of Greg's suggestions worked. I got the stem moved up in the stack, and got a more forward tilt on my seat. I had the idea that maybe with the angles of my two mountain bikes being so different, and the difference in wheel sizes, that maybe my simple measurements done for comparison aren't really relatable (no that's not a word). For instance, seat height from the ground, seat to handlebar, etc... So sometime in the next couple days, I'm on a mission to put both bikes into CAD to due a true geek engineer comparison on them. But in the mean time thanks to all for the suggestions, the Kona is feeling better, and even the discs seem to be working better.
As a side note, get some Sam Adams Octoberfest, goood stuff. Jim Koch is the man. It's malty, little sweet, just easy drinking.
And one last note, who'd be up for a fixie road ride? I was half thinking of putting some truer road tires on my newly rebuilt fixie, and taking it out on the roads, with lycra and a helmet. Yes, I did say fixie, lycra and helmet in the same sentence. It seems strange, but I have always wondered how it would be. We did some of that in the depths of winter with Cory and Paul. But I'd like to do it will high pressure road tires, and a nice warm fall day. Even though I'd do the lycra thing, I'd strictly enforce a touring speed, I really want to enjoy the weather and scenery on a road ride for once. Any takers?

uhh, i don't have a fixie, but gimme a call whenever you want to head out. heh heh, i said head.
Haha, yes you did. What would you ride?
Definitely keep me in the loop for a fixie road ride.
I am manning up and trying to push 48x15, so I need all the mileage I can get.
Yeah I sure will Mario. I'll post something when I think the weather will be somewhat decent. It supposed to rain this weekend, but we'll see if we can find a break in the weather. I got your cell too, so I might try calling if it's shorter notice.
Sounds good. I am gonna do a longer road ride tomorrow some time. Maybe we could make that into a fixie road ride?
Yeah, if it's nice I'm up for it, maybe afternoon?
Works for me. I just checked weather.com, very little chance of rain tomorrow afternoon.
Roll out at 12 or 1?
Yeah 1 or 2 works. Supposed to be cooler sunday too if anyone else can ride on sunday night saturday we could do that.
I am up for some gravel on Sunday afternoon or night.
Hey Paul. Well maybe I'll go fixie riding tomorrow then. If you wanna go later, like around 4-5, it'd be a nicer ride. But we could look at the weather. I need a break from Seven Oaks:) If you wanna do some gravel, we could do a loop of peterson and mcfarland then get back on gravel and meander back. Emily would probably be up for that. She also likes that ride to the heart of iowa trail.
4-5 on Sunday then?
Hey Paul. I looked at the weather, around 4-5 there is a 30% chance of T-storms. Before 3 there's only a 10% chance.
I can do any time tomorrow, I'm sure you've got more commitments than I do. If you'd rather do something earlier to avoid a small chance of rain, or for any other reasons let me know. Otherwise I'll plan on 4:30. I was thinking meet at 190 and 530th (grant)? That way - 0 driving.
