As I got back from a little work on my thesis program, the weather looked less than desirable for a decent road ride. So I figured it’d be more fun to get my Surly “refreshed” with some minor mechanical bugs fixed, and swap tires. After I finally got a socket head cap screw to work with my brake levers, and some Michelin sprints on, the Surly was lookin good. Then I did the same refreshing to my fixed gear, the IRO was thinking green, tires that is.
I ended up taking a nice ride that evening on the Surly. It was really weird how the Michelins actually felt slow. I had them pumped up to 60-70. But I think it’s just a different tire compound that made the difference. I’m sure I was movin right along. The 42 width tires I had on there really fly due to their momentum.
It ended up being a nice ride. The bars allow tons of comfy positions with the brake levers finally as tight as they need to be. I stopped at the Ada Hayden lookout point, on the northwest corner of the park. This guy walked by on the gravel path. He was wearing what looked like some weird skirt thing. I looked it up later, he was sportin a Mountain Hardwear Kilt. He asked me about the bluebirds. I was like, “huh, no” (still trying to figure out what he was wearing). He thought I was looking for bluebirds. I said no, I was putting myself somewhere between the sunset and the lake. So with that, he kept walking, unhindered by any of those pesky inseams:)!
